Hello everyone, let's discuss the Temple of Shrinathji in Nathdwara, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. I previously mentioned in my blog that Nathdwara is known as the city of the beloved Lord Krishna, Shrinathji. Firstly, Nathdwara is situated in the Raj Samand district of the state of Rajasthan, India. It is nestled in the Aravali hills on the banks of the Banas River, approximately 48 km northeast of Udaipur. Shrinathji is a manifestation of Lord Krishna resembling his seven-year-old form. Originally worshipped in Mathura, the deity was relocated in 1672 from Govardhan Hill near Mathura, along the holy Yamuna River, after a brief stay in Agra for about six months. The name Nathdwara translates to the "gateway of Shrinathji." Recently, I visited Nathdwara with my family, and it was an incredible experience. I am drawn to these places due to the spiritual connection I feel with Krishna. Shrinathji is a beautiful and spiritually significant place for Vaishnav devotees, and I highly recommend a visit. When you are in Udaipur, make sure to include Nathdwara in your itinerary. The temple offers daily darshans scheduled throughout the day: Mangla, Shringar, Gwala, Rajbhog, Uthapan, Aarti, and Shayan. It is essential to be mindful of the timings, as the temple closes after the evening Shayan Aarti at 6 pm and reopens promptly at 5 am the next morning.

Shreenathji Temple Visit - Upon arriving at Nathdwara, I was greeted by an atmosphere of overwhelming serenity. We checked into a hotel near the temple, conveniently located at the heart of the town. The Shrinathji temple's central location allows easy access for visitors, but it is crucial to adhere to the temple's specific opening and closing times. I made sure to arrive before the final darshan at 6:00 pm, knowing that the temple would close until the following morning at 5:00 am. Accompanied by my family, we joined the orderly queues for men and women to enter the temple. Stepping inside, I immediately felt a spiritual energy and vibrant ambiance. The temple's architecture, resembling a palace known as "Moti Mahal" or "Shrinathji ki Haveli," was truly captivating. It was a memorable experience exploring the temple and witnessing its grandeur. Excited and filled with anticipation, I explored the spacious layout and traditional Rajasthani design of the temple. As I approached the sanctum sanctorum, I was eager to catch a glimpse of the revered idol. Inside, I was awestruck by the magnificent black stone statue of Shrikrishna, with its striking features and the symbolic gesture of holding Govardhan Parvat. The rituals at the Shrinathji temple, such as the elaborate "jhaki" ceremony with the opening and closing of curtains, ensured a continuous connection between the devotees and the idol. The priests' devoted care for Shrinathji, believed to embody a seven-year-old child, was evident in the adoration he received. His innocent and charming countenance emitted a special aura as we sought his blessings and explored every corner of the temple.
Shrinathji Temple History - So far, we have talked about visiting the temple before, but we have not delved into its historical background. I would like to share the history of the Shrinathji Temple based on my research, as I seek answers to questions such as why Krishna is worshipped as a seven-year-old boy and where this statue was discovered. Here are the answers provided by the people of Nathdwara regarding the temple's history.
Shrinathji Temple holds a rich historical background that dates back centuries. The temple is not just a place of worship but a symbol of devotion and cultural significance. The main deity of the temple, Lord Krishna, is worshipped in the form of a seven-year-old boy, a unique representation that has intrigued many devotees and scholars alike.
Legend has it that the idol of Shrinathji was discovered in the 16th century when the original idol of Lord Krishna was being transported to a safer location to protect it from Mughal invasions. The chariot carrying the idol got stuck in the mud at the present location of the temple, which was then considered a divine sign that this was where the idol was meant to reside. Vajranabha lord Krishna's great grandson installed this deity 5,000 years ago. The same deity was worshipped by Madhvendra puri in Vrindavan. Rana Raj Singh of Mewar brought Shrinathji to Nathdwara around 1669.
Over the years, the Shrinathji Temple has become a center of Krishna worship, attracting thousands of pilgrims and devotees from around the world. The temple's architecture, rituals, and festivals all reflect the rich history and traditions associated with the worship of Lord Krishna in this unique form.
Exploring the history of the Shrinathji Temple not only sheds light on its origins but also deepens our understanding of the cultural and religious significance attached to this sacred site. The stories and beliefs passed down through generations add layers of meaning to the spiritual experience of visiting and worshipping at this revered temple.
